The Civil Registration Department is made up of the following sections:

• Passport Office
• Birth/Death Notification Section and
• The Common Data Base Section

and is responsible for these three main services, namely:
(a) Issuing of Maltese Passports;
(b) Notifying the Public Registry of Births and Deaths;
(c) Gathering of information such as Births, Deaths, marriages, separations, change of surnames, and organization details, etc.in a core database: The Government Data Base.
