Mr.George Zerafa D.P.A
Director (Corporate Services)

george zerafaMr George Zerafa was born in St Venera on 23rd April 1949. He received his secondary and post secondary education at the Lyceum and tertiary education at the University of Malta.

Mr Zerafa joined the Civil Service as a Clerk Typist in December 1969 and was posted at the Hamrun Area Office of the Department of Social Security. He was subsequently appointed as Clerical Officer in March 1970, after being successful in the entrance examination, and was posted at the Audit Department.

In 1971, he was appointed as an Executive Officer, after being successful in the external examination for this grade and was made head of one of the five sections within the Audit Department and responsible for the examination of the Revenue and Recurrent Expenditure of some of the major Departments. In 1974 he was promoted to the grade of Administrative Officer. and subsequently in 1973 as Assistant Head. He served also for a couple of years as the Audit representative on Bulk Buying Boards.

In 1991 Mr Zerafa was one of the first batch of Civil Servants who underwent a two-year part-time Course at the University of Malta from where he succeeded to obtain his Diploma in Public Administration. His dissertation dealt with constraints to efficiency at the National Audit Office. In July 1992, he attended a two-month course at Croydon College, organised by the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy (CIPFA), for Senior Auditors from within the Commonwealth.

In November 1993 Mr Zerafa was appointed as Director Corporate Services at the Ministry of Justice. In this post he was responsible for the co-ordination of the financial functions, Human Resource Management and Information Technology requirements of the Departments which fell under the responsibility of that Ministry - the Law Courts, Law Reform Commissions, Land Registry and the other legal departments, namely the Office of the Notary to Government, the Public Registry and the Attorney General's Office.

In 1995 Mr Zerafa moved over to new grounds, still retaining the functions of Director Corporate Services, this time under the Ministry for Home Affairs and the Environment. During his tenure of office he served on various selection boards and committees including the Inter-Ministerial Committee on Malta EU Relations.

Mr George Zerafa, son of Joseph and the late M'Dolores Polidano, is married to Rose neè Mallia and they have three children, Jean- Claude, Ian and Mario.
